Midrange sniping

by Nathan on May.17, 2010, under EVE

We often find ourselves fighting in midrange sniping, needing to shoot at long range hacs that try to pick us off one by one.

Since we’re fighting on our hometuft, we often undock in “Midrange RR-BS” that will shoot out to about 150km.

This is my fit for an Apocalypse that I use, nothing special but it usually holds up pretty good. Suggestions for improvements is always welcome, this one has 90k EHP, about 170km lockrange and 289 DPS at 149 km.

The tank of the nighthawk

by Nathan on Feb.17, 2010, under EVE

Found my alt tackled in a belt yesterday, I tabbed out to put my main in warp and tabbed back to see a Cynabal try to down my alt in her Nighthawk.

The Cynabal had deployed EC-300 drones and started bumping her orbiting on 700m.

I loaded Scourge and started pounding the Cynabal as long as I had lock on him, deployed drones to chew my way through the EWAR.

Lost lock one time and got a re-lock and continued to pound the Cynabal. Thanks to my lazy ass afk tank on the Nighthawk I got the Cynabal into armor and almost into STRUCTURA before he jumped. Too bad I hadnt a point fitted. I had about 15% shields and a DC left.

I rat in a PVP-ish fit to be able to easily refit for pvp, extenders, resists, bcus and extender rigs for buffer.

A good weekend

by Nathan on Dec.14, 2009, under EVE

No losses, a few kills and a little wormhole thrill.

This friday, I undocked a shield-buffered Hurricane that my alts been skilling for. Dual medium neutralizers, some dakka dakka autocannons and a permarunning MWD means good times.

On the first kill I missed the tackle of Raimo in a Fed Navy Comet by a corpmate so he popped my mates Taranis while I was in warp. After I landed, I tackled, dried him up and beat him down. The same clown must have had about 10 Comets which he entered Providence with and subsequently got popped and podded.

I bought a sabre and we started roaming providence in Intys, AFs and a Dictor. We caught Raimo a second time and popped him again.

After that I switched to scanner / drake and set of into the unknown, wormholes and started looking for good wormholes with anomalies so I could stack up on nanoribbons for T3-production.

Unfortunately, I didnt find one single nanoribbon in the class 2 and class 1 I was doing the entire day. Next time I’m doing C3, apparently the droprate of nano ribbons are much higher on the higher class wormholes.

After I got tired of sitting alone in a WH the entire day I found an exit in lowsec and powered home. Switched to the trusted Sabre and joined the roaming gang in Providence.

We managed to snag a Cruiser before bedtime 100km from a gate. A UK Bellicose which got my sabre into hull after I had bubbled it, but I managed to motor out of the bubble and warp to another gate eve though he tackled me. Pure luck, I was a litte trigger happy, because we had an Arazu on the way to tackle him.

Hydra had a gang with bombers and faction frigates out and about so we decided to dock up and I went to bed. Apparently they raided a carbear camp in a system which ended horribly.

Five kills with a HAM Drake

by Nathan on Nov.30, 2009, under EVE

My alt skilled into a T2 HAM Drake the other day. Not an insane amount of DPS but a good combination with EHP. I recently flew this fitting in a fleet and helped popping in total five ships.

The fitting is as follows:

HI: 7 T2 HAM

Med: MWD2, J5b Scram, X5 Web, 2x Invuln2, LSE2

Low: PDU2, DC2, 2x BCU2

Drones: Hobgoblin2

If you exchange the PDU for an RCU I think there is room for a small energy neutralizer in the last top slot.

For a bigger fleet with more dedicated tackle I think I’ll change the EWAR to Tp + WD2.

Starting up PVP: Tackle

by Nathan on Oct.11, 2009, under EVE

I’ve been pvping a little during the last year, loosing my share of ships and killing some.

Everyone wants to run DPS and thats understandable but really, fast tackle is the king of the game. We help CVA defend Providence and it’s a constant stream of fast, mobile hostiles trying to gank blues.

My weapon of choice has been a plated pulse-harbinger but I’ve lost it and traded down to smaller ships. Tried an Enyo and it was pretty sweet, although a little anemic so I think I will try an Ishkur later. Even Rifters are better than cruising in a battlecruiser nowadays so get people tackling in those cheap frigs. We will start roaming with a couple of battlecruisers for DPS and the rest of the fleet in tackling frigates.

I even took a myrmidon for a spin and it’s still alive. The main problem with Gallenteships is two fold, first range which is rediculus compared to my pulse harbinger with scorch and the second is the drones which are too slow to matter. A harbinger with 5 Vespa EC-500 is a much better boat than many other battlecruisers.

Two fights in one night

by Nathan on May.26, 2009, under EVE

Last night, our second war became live. A one man army had wardecced us and we had scanned his fittings earlier. It was a little strange so we suspected some kind of trap and maybe this could be a really nasty surprise.

We formed up a fleet with good turn up, about seven or eight, I was primary FC.

A wartarget soon undocked in a Vexor hoping for an easy kill. My maxed out, plated vexor tanked him until my corpmates came but we couldn’t get a good tackle on him so he could warp out in structure. His friend also undocked in a Fleet stabber that I later learned was double plated and trimarked. Bait anyone?

At this time we saw that another wartarget logged on so we moved the fleet down to his system and camped him. Moving a few alts through the system and seeing him positioning himself 150 km from gate made us giggle a little. An alt in a cov ops frigate provided us with a warpin and then we sent in a tackler.

The WT’s Hurricane went down quickly, I doubt that he even managed to retarget anyone. He locked and attacked the tackler but not much more.

After that he sulked a little in station and logged.

Interesting blog about actually decloaking

by Nathan on Nov.11, 2008, under EVE

I was under the impression that you were invulnerable after jumping into a system, with the cloak and all, but I now read an interesting blog entry that states otherwise…
